Stephanie Galloway-Maslanik
ABOUT ME:
Welcome! I joined JVSD as the K-12 school social worker in August 2016. I have over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families at the post-master’s level. I received my BSW at Juniata College in 2001 and my MSW at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002.
I have a license in clinical social work and am a registered play
therapist-supervisor. I am also a ScreamFree Certified Leader. I have worked in primary care/women’s healthcare offices, outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization programs, behavioral health inpatient units, residential treatment facilities, as well as recreation centers and mentoring organizations.
I am the mother of two children, a son who graduated in 2025 and a daughter who is now in high school. Scott Maslanik, who is in his 29th year at JVSD as the health, physical education, and driver’s education teacher, is my husband.
ABOUT SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK:
A school social worker helps others manage and cope with stress, regardless of the source, and performs multiple roles throughout the day. Some of these include individual, group, family, and classroom interventions/lessons. School social work interventions are normally short-term and solution-focused. It is not a replacement for outpatient counseling.
Sometimes, a student may have an immediate need and see the school social worker only one time. Other times, a student may need short-term, regular sessions or longer-term contact. The goal of any contact with a school social worker is to improve social-emotional well-being and management of stress, which promotes overall academic success.
Remember, learning can be very challenging if a student is overwhelmed by thoughts, feelings, and stress! Please feel free to call or e-mail me with concerns or needs your child might have.
STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM:
Our Student Assistance Program (SAP) meets every other week to discuss student needs and concerns and determine what will best support our students. Brochures and referral forms can be found on the right-hand side of this webpage. Anyone can make a referral to SAP if there is a concern about a student. If you have any questions, please call or e-mail me!
