JVSD Lunch Distribution for All Students
Beginning Monday, April 13th, Juniata Valley School District will begin to distribute free “grab and go” lunches using the district’s bus routes. All children (through age 18) who live in the Juniata Valley School District are eligible to participate, including preschoolers and children who are homeschooled or attend a private school. Children do not have to be approved for free or reduced meals to receive these lunches. These lunches will be made available as long as school continues to be closed or the end of the school year.
The bag lunch menu will be posted to the district’s website at jvhornets.com. Lunches will be delivered to each student’s usual bus stop between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The meals will be distributed on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. 2 lunches will be delivered on Mondays and Wednesdays; 1 lunch will be delivered each Friday. An estimate of each bus’s stop times will be posted to the district web site by Friday, April 10th. Please keep in mind that these times are only estimates and routes may be combined, so please be at the stop at least 15 minutes ahead of the listed time. Any delivery information provided by your bus driver will override these delivery time estimates.
For the protection of the participants as well as those who deliver the meals, we will follow current social distancing guidelines as much as possible. If you have more than one child, please send only one person to pick up all of the meals whenever possible. This person may be an adult. If more than one person is at a stop, please maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from anyone who is not a member of your household.
Our bus drivers will contact each family on their routes to ask if you would like to participate. If your child does not ride a bus, or if you do not receive a call, please contact the district business office at (814) 669-9150, extension 4805; or send an email to pehgartner@jvsd.org. Please give your name, address, bus number (if your child rides), any food allergy concerns, and the number and ages of children to receive lunch.
This program will take the place of the current volunteer-run bag lunch program, which will continue to distribute bag lunches through Friday, April 10th. If your child is currently receiving these lunches, please sign up as described above so that your child will continue to receive lunch. If your family needs food assistance in addition to these lunches, please call or text Linda Howe at (814) 386-9308 to be added to the weekly backpack program, which will continue to operate.
