6th Grade Orientation

Dear Sixth Graders (Class of 2026)!

Welcome to 2019-2020 school year! The first day of school this year is
Wednesday, August 21, 2019. I would like to invite you and your parents/guardians
to attend the Sixth Grade Orientation on Thursday, August 15 th at 6:00 PM in
the high school auditorium. While Mr. Estep and I meet with your parents, you
will be able to orient yourself to the parts of the building you will be in. I have a
few high school students who will be helping you with this. You will also find your
locker and practice the route from classroom to classroom.

On the first day of school you should report to your homeroom by 8:05 AM. You
will learn where your homeroom is located at orientation. In addition to your major
classes, English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, you will have a rotation of
classes that changes four times during the year, once each quarter. You will have
Physical Education, Music, Art, and Library during this period. Your lunch is
scheduled for 12:05 – 12:35 PM. It’s very important to start your day off with
breakfast, which can be purchased and eaten in the cafeteria in the morning before
you go to your homeroom. You will use your same 5 digit keypad number for
breakfast and lunch that you used in the elementary. This number will be printed in
the top right corner of your schedule in case you forget it!

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening, August 15 th , 2019! Hopefully you
will be refreshed and relaxed as you prepare for the new school year. If you have
any questions prior to this date, please feel free to contact me at school at 669-
1104 or hsmith@jvsd.org.

Sincerely,

Hope Smith
